Today each of you briefly introduced yourselves to the class. Now I
would like you to tell us some more about yourself in writing.
Here are some questions to consider:
Where
are you in life (meaning, what stage)? Did you finish high
school? College? Graduate school? Are you single or married? Do you have kids?
Talk about your background and your professional and personal aspirations. Also, discuss your
interests, hobbies, and talents. Tell us something about yourself
that makes you unique. Feel free to add anything else that you would
like to share about yourself with the class.
You should post your writing as a comment to this post. Just click on comment.
This is writing PRACTICE. It does not have to be perfect.
Hi,everyone, my name is Yuxi Yan, and my English name is Zoe, actually I can not pronounce this name very well.I'm 21 years old, in fact, I have studied in Medical College for two years in China. However, I need to study from undergraduate because my special major--dental. I am willing to challenge that even though I know how difficult it is.As for my hobbies, I'm interested in many things. I enjoy singing by myself, climbing with friends, cooking, and doing housework.I prefer someone who is as punctual and responsible as me.In the real life, sometimes I could be active and positive, but sometimes I could be negative and sad.I think it may depend on my constellation. What's more,I am single because I do not need boyfriend right now, I can do everything by myself.
ReplyDeleteWhatever, I am happy to make friends with you guys.Let's enjoy our time together.

Do you think that your mood depends on the stars or on you?
Thanks for sharing. Personally, I hope to see the active and positive Zoe this semester!
Hello everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy name is shaima. I am from Kirkuk/Iraq.
I graduated from college of civil engineering in 2007. I worked as a site engineer in university of Kirkuk / engineering affairs for 4 years.
Ever since, I was in college , I have planned to join a good graduate program to do my master in structural engineering. Being student in university of Houston is great achievement to me.
I am quit kind of person, I take quite much time than people take to make friends. I look for quality and not quantity in everything related to my life. I enjoy hanging out with friends, watching movies, camping, drinking tea.
I am married and proud mother of two adorable children.
I am looking forward in this semester to get a great knowledge about English language .

I think that's a good message for everybody, so thank you!
I wish you success in balancing all of the priorities in your life!
Hi everyone, my name is Yuan Cheng Lin, you can either call me Adam or Lin. I'm 25 years old and I'm from Taiwan even though I look like a Mexican. I like playing golf and guitar, actually, I am looking for the people who can play guitar with me. so if you are the person I'm looking for, please tell me. However, originally, I wanted to study abroad right after I graduated from high school. But I don't have enough money by then, so I started working when I was 19. Finally, I saved enough money and came to the U.S last year December, I felt like, OMG, my dream came true. Truth be told, I admit I was a really terrible student when I was in high school and university. Before I came here, golf was my whole life. Therefore,at the beginning of Level 4, I didn't even know what does adjective mean, that's really cool. I knew I'm behind all my classmates, so I worked hard and valued every opportunity learning English in last semester. In fact, I planed to go back to Taiwan after I finish level4 initially, fortunately, I got Scolarship from LCC so I decided to stay here and attend level 6, that's why you guys have a Taiwanese classmate. Anyway, These days I found that I am behind my classmates, AGAIN, but I will do my best to catch you guys up, and hope my English skills will be soared. We'll see, good luck everyone.
ReplyDeleteLOL have people started speaking to you in Spanish here?
DeleteI hope you continue to work hard and value every opportunity here and I congratulate you on winning the LCC scholarship. I can tell you that it is a very competitive award.
You're not behind anybody because the only one that you're competing with is YOURSELF. Your goal is to be the best Adam or the best Lin or the best Yuan Cheng Lin that you can be!
i thought you were gonna say " the best Mexican"...Lol
Deletethanks for your encouragement, i will keep working hard and trying to do me best.
okay, well that too!
DeleteHello, I'm Terrible-Thao Nguyen. I come from Vietnam. 22 is my age, but I'm still looking for a boy friend.
ReplyDeleteGraduated from finance helped me realize that we (I and my finance) couldn't get along with each other anymore. Maybe deep in my heart, I love something else. Something likes medical. As a result, we broke up. That's the reason why I decided to come to the US, to find my new love. I have been here for 5 months and 5 days, and it is a long time with me who has never ever gone that far.
If I have to describe my self by one word, it would be honesty.
To talk about my hobby, I prefer to play sports than some girl's step such as shopping or singing. My sports are badminton, volleyball, table tennis,...except swimming and rowing cause I can't swim, but my favorite now is billiards. Beside that, I like reading, writing and watching cartoon movies. I could have killed myself if I have to watch a romantic movie.
That's it. I'm a simple person, right?
I still have been on my way finding who I am, who I want to be. I'm glad that I can meet and be your friend on that way. That's something people call "destiny". Gook luck to me and to all of you.
Hi Terrible Thao!
DeleteI understand your feelings because I experienced the same thing with my former boyfriend, whose name was Accounting. We also had to break up because we just couldn't get along with each other. Eventually I found my true love, ESL, and we have been happily together ever since :)
I'd like to encourage you to take swim lessons while you are here in the U.S. You can sign up for lessons at the Recreation Center. English is important but swimming can not only save your life but also increase your pleasure in this world.
I won't show any romantic movies in class; don't worry :)
I wish you success in finding yourself. I think when you do you will discover that your true name is TERRIFIC, not TERRIBLE!
Hello there! My name is Nhi. Some people here find hard trying pronounce my name exactly; they sometimes call me "knee". Of course I'm not a knee :)). After getting a bachelor degree from a university in Vietnam, I had a great time working as a teacher in a foreign language school for children. I love working with kids although they are sometimes really naughty and even rebellious. In terms of future, I'm not sure about who I will become, but no matter who I will be, I am still myself. In fact, I'm introverted and I'm not very sporty. I enjoy watching movies at home; my favorite one is Korean drama. Besides, I'm really into crochet which I have learned since I was a teenage. I'm very glad to be a member of 6C and hope that we will have great time together.
ReplyDeleteSo "Knee" isn't the correct pronunciation? I guess I will have to practice my listening in Vietnamese!
DeleteI'm also very glad that you're a member of 6C and I look forward to getting to know you during the term.
Hi everyone! I'm Miguel. I'm from Venezuela which is a country that is facing a lot of problems right now, so that's basically the main reason why I came to the United States to study here. I finished high-school in Venezuela when I was 16 years old, and that's something people here always see weird and incredible. I want to study mechanical engineering because it's a major that I have always been intered about and that let me do what I like. Since I was a kid I have been interested in fixing things and creating new things. In family there are a lot of mechanical engineers and maybe that influeced in me when I decided that I was going to study that, and I'm planning to start the mechanical engineering program at UH this fall semester. I really like sports and I play soccer, basketball, baseball, and voleyball. When I was a kid I used to play baseball because that's the most common sport in Venezuela, and at some point I was supposed to play professional baseball, but something happened and I broke my clavicle. After that the doctors said I couldn't pitch anymore, so that was not the best moment of my life, but I found other sports, and that helped me a lot. Right now I play soccer, and I'm a big fan of it.
ReplyDeleteMiguel, you wrote:
Delete"Since I was a kid I have been interested in fixing things and creating new things." Very cool!
Congratulations for already getting accepted to engineering at UH. That's excellent!
Forgive me about my comments about baseball yesterday. I didn't know that you were such a serious player! That's too bad that you can't pitch anymore, but it sounds like you have the right attitude and outlook on life. We can't control many things that happen to us in our life, but we can always control our response :)
I wish you a wonderful semester before the hard work of engineering begins!
Hello everyone. My name is Khanh and I'm from Vietnam. I'm turning 26 this August and I'm here in Houston for my grad-school. I graduated from a university in Vietnam and my major was actually International Relations. But for my grad-school, my major is going to be in Hospitality Management. Actually, this is not the first time i came to America. My first time was 4 years ago, when i just finished my school in Vietnam. I came here in an exchange program, and that was also the time I had my very first experiences in hotel and tourism industry. During my exchange program, I got to work with people in a resort at the Grand Canyon and since then, I started loving working with people. That why I did not start my grad-school right after i graduated but I decided to come back to Vietnam and work for few more years, to figure out what I really wanted to do. So when i came back to Vietnam, I worked as a tour guide for almost 3 years and I loved it so much. Everyday working was so much fun for me, and at that time, I just thought to myself that I chose the right one. And that's the reason why I'm here, trying hard to get accepted to my grad-school. I think this English class is the perfect place to start everything. Through this class, I can improve my English, and get ready to study English at a more academic level. This is also the chance for me to get used to the school, to explore the campus, to meet the teachers, to make new friends and also to give myself a little bit time to get 100% ready for my school. After the school, I hope I can find a job here to work for couple of years, to get some further experience working in a international environment, then I can come back to Vietnam, find a good job, and then travel the world, since wanderlust is in my blood and I'm eager to explore new cultures. I'm looking forward to having a good time with all you guys. 11 weeks might not be that long, but i think it will be enough for us to get to know each other.
ReplyDeleteWow! I enjoyed reading about all of your experiences but even more about your reflections upon those experiences. It is a blessing to really know what we want to do and what we need to achieve it and it seems that you have clarity in these important matters.
DeleteI'm very excited for you and I look forward to all of the future stories in your life to come! Between your wanderlust, your enthusiasm, and your good writing skills, I'd love to see you do some travel writing!
Hi everyone - Xin chà o (in Vietnamese) :-D
ReplyDeleteGlad to see and study with all of you. My name is Ngoc and that's not an easy Vietnamese name to pronounce, hence everyone can either call me Jade. I was born in 1990 in Vietnam. I've been in the U.S for 4 months and 1 week after I got the Bachelor degree in Business and worked in an e-commerce company in my country for 2 years.
When I was in high school, I dreamed that I can be a psychologist. However, family’s influence and the labor market in Vietnam prevented me from pursuing that dream. I can’t get a good education for that major or find a good job in psychology field in Vietnam. Thus, I nourish my dream in another way. That’s why doing a business becomes my career choice. I will able to learn and also apply psychology to it.
For my personality, some people think that I'm maybe not approachable at the first met. But trust me, I’m totally friendly and sometimes crazy :-). I love social activities and free days to hang out with friends. I’m an optimistic person and my attitude is what ever you decide to do, just make sure it makes you happy. That’s it :-D
I hope all of us can build a great class and have memorable moments together. Because of being in the same class, that’s our fate in friendship :-)
Jade (Ngoc Huynh)
Jade,
DeleteWhy did you dream to be a psychologist?
I appreciate your positive attitude and I hope that you will be a good influence on your classmates :)
Hello!! My name is HIEP. However, it is difficult to pronounce that why i changed my name is SOPHIA. I'm from Vietnam. My major is business. I graduated from Van Lang university. I had a bachelor in business. I have been here one year and half month. After i finish studying at LCC, i will study Master Business Administration. I'm single. Since i lived in the US, i met many friends from many countries. Moreover, i learnt some cultures from many countries. I love University of Houston because it has many good and helpful teacher. I'm not sure what you mean. 18 months or 12.5 months?
I'm glad that you have found the teachers at UH to be good and helpful. I hope you feel the same way this semester :)
It is my mistake. One year and half like 18 months
DeleteHello everyone. My name is Giselle and I am 24 years old. I am from Angola but I lived in Portugal for eight years, so my heart is kind of divided between these two countries. To be honest, at this moment, I miss more Portugal than Angola, probably because I spent an important part of my life there. My friends and my boyfriend are there and it helps. One of most important moment was my graduation from Law School. Actually, I came here to finish what I started by taking my master degree.
ReplyDeleteI define myself as a calm and kind person. I like to socialize and meet new people and I don't find it difficult. However, there are differences between a person that I know and a friend. Sometimes I can switch my mood abruptly, but don't worry because it doesn't happen very often and I will just be more quiet than usual.
On my free times I like to read, watch movies, be with my friends and play volleyball. Oh, and sleep. Oh, sleep. It's an amazing feeling taking a nap right after lunch but iam trying to get ride of it because I am becoming to much lazy.
I hope that we have a great time at LCC and I can't wait to see how my English will improve after this experience.
I'm glad I have you in the morning, not in the afternoon :)
DeleteDid you leave your parents in Angola to go to Portugal when you were 16?
Your English will improve greatly in a short period of time by mere fact that you will be using the language exclusively here.
Hello everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Mousa Alramadhan. I am a 28 years old Saudi student. I have been to the US since October 2014. I graduated from the university back in 2011 with a bachelor degree in computer science. Since then I have worked in 2 different companies as an Enterprise Recourse Planing consultant. I gained a good experience in my field in which I felt that I need more. This is why I have decided to come to the US to obtain my Masters degree. Even though I was planing to study Business administration, my sponsor disagreed about that and this is why I am planing to continue in the field of systems security. I look forward to having a great semester all together and I wish you all the best
Mousa,
DeleteYou wrote: "Since then I have worked in 2 different companies as an Enterprise Recourse Planing consultant." Well, I don't know what that means exactly but it certainly sounds important!
I'm sorry that your government makes the decision of what you will study :(
I meant After graduating from my university.
DeleteI understood that part but I still don't know what an Enterprise Recourse Planning Consultant does!
DeleteGood evening everyone! I'm Yitang Liu, now I have a better and easier name for you guys to remember, which is Young Yitang. Thanks for Macho Mousa's advice, and I also appreciate Awesome Anna for helping me change the Blogger username. I'm a Chinese girl, 18 years old, and I graduated from high school last year. During free time, I like watching movies and TV series, sometimes I also go to gym to do exercise which can let me realse pressure, and I really enjoy that feeling of sweating after exercise. DeleteThat's fine! Don't worry about that,I'm not unhappy,I just want to clarify that. Because you know, maybe Richard will think something bad because of that~Hahahahaha
DeleteCan I say that I posted it failed? I clicked the publish button, And my comment just gone. I don't know where it is traveling to. Whatever, I have to rewrite it. Hello everyone, my name is Jiali He, and you can call me Richard. Rich Richard is not rich at all. Haha. I am from China, and I am 19 years old. I am happy to be classmate with all of you. I would like to spend more time to improve my language skill with you guys because my English is not good enough, and I need to study harder. Also, I like playing sports such as badminton, table tennis, basketball, swimming, and playing video games. What my favorite activity is driving. I would like to help someone who needs help so you can call me when you need help. I will do my best, and I wish you all have a good semester. Hopefully I can send it out.

DeleteWhat kind of help are you offering to give?
DeleteHello everyone !! My name is Hussain Alamer, I am 19 years old . I just graduated from high school then I came to the U.S. in order to study Mechanical Engineering. I became interested in studying that major because of my father. One day, I went to Aramco where my father used to work, and I saw how my father worked hard . From that day till now, I am dreaming to be an engineer as my father was. Moreover, I like playing any sports especially soccer.
ReplyDeleteFrom that day till now, I HAVE BEEN DREAMING to be an engineer...
DeleteAs we say, "Like father, like son."
It's a pleasure to meet you :)
Hi everyone
ReplyDeleteMy name is Junior, and I am from Congo in middle of Africa. This semester I will be your classmate for 12 weeks and I hope that we will spend a great time together. I don't think that my life is very interesting to be explained here "lol" but I believe that I am a nice person with some values and of course a bunch of default :) . I am not very good to introduce myself behind my computer but I hope and I confident that you will have several chances to learn more about me this term and why not hanging out 😊.
I have a feeling that your life is more interesting than you think.
Delete"...of course a bunch of FAULTS."
Hi everyone! My name is Abdul, and I am from Kuwait. This is my third semester at the LCC. I came to the U.S. in order to get a B.S in chemical engineering, and I will start studying my major in the fall 2015. Not only did I come to the united states to get a degree, but also to get more experiences in my life and learn more about other cultures. I hope we all enjoy this summer together :)
ReplyDeleteI like sentence #3. Very nice idea and very nicely written :)
DeleteHello! My name is Ana Cecilia, or just Ana. :D This is my first (and the only one) semester at the LCC. I started the program intending to improve my English for my Masters in International Law, which will begins in the fall semester at the University of Houston. I am 24 years old, I was born in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and I just graduated from Law School. I came to the U.S. because I have a couple goals that I believe will be easier to be achieved here, such as work for a international organization - like the United Nations. Also, my boyfriend had to move here for his work, so Houston became the best option for the both of us. I really enjoy the student life, and I hope all of us will have a great time together and learn a lot with our cultural differences. I have studied abroad in other countries before and I can say those were my best memories. So... let's make another one! Xoxo
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI am Hamzah shaheen, 25 years old, from Saudi Arabia, SINGLE. I have been in the U.S. for almost year and half. Once I get into the university, I will study Electrical Engineering which I have an associate degree in. The reason why I LOVE this major is that it keeps your brain functioning because it is all about solving problems and coming up with ideas and in order to do so you have to use science and math.Who am I? People see me as the type of person who has a mesterical personality because I am not a talkative person, it is true that I frequently appear to be an outgoing, but in reality I do not spend much time interacting with others. I spend most of my pass-time enjoying different hobbies such as reading, watching serios and checking my social media's updates. Sharing with elderly people comes as another favorite habit due to the wisdoms I get when setting with them. However, it is a pleasure to be one of your classmates and I am looking forward to have a wonderful semester with you guys.
